  • Appearance: It features a slender, bamboo-like trunk topped with lush green, pinnate fronds. The crownshaft, the section of the trunk from which the leaves emerge, is a striking scarlet red.
  • Ideal growing conditions: It is native to the swampy regions of Southeast Asia and requires a warm, humid environment, making it suitable for USDA Zones 11 and higher.
  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight but can tolerate some direct sun when mature.

Red latan palm (Latania lontaroides)
This is a slower-growing palm that is also known for its reddish stems. 
  • Appearance: The Red Latan Palm has a single trunk and large, fan-shaped fronds that can grow up to 8 feet wide. The petioles (leaf stems) have a reddish tint, particularly on young plants.
  • Ideal growing conditions: It is native to the Indian Ocean and thrives in warm, tropical, and subtropical climates (USDA Zone 10B and higher). It is more drought-tolerant and salt-tolerant than the Lipstick Palm.
  • Light: Prefers full sun but can grow in partial sun.
  • Water: Water regularly but allow the top few inches of soil to dry between waterings. Avoid planting in areas with poor drainage.
  • Care: This palm is relatively low-maintenance and is a stunning focal point for coastal landscapes.
