- Soil: Tolerates slightly alkaline or chalky soil, unlike most other Erica species, which prefer acidic soil.
Erica × darleyensis: This is another popular winter-flowering variety that adds color to the garden when little else is in bloom. Like Erica carnea, it can tolerate neutral or slightly alkaline soil.
Erica ‘Kramer’s Red’: A spring-flowering variety featuring deep purplish-red blooms.

General care for outdoor Erica

Outdoor heaths and heathers are easy to grow if given the proper conditions.

Sunlight: They thrive in full sun or light shade.
Soil: Most require well-draining, acidic to neutral soil. Use ericaceous (acidic) compost for potted plants.
Watering: Newly planted heaths should be watered regularly. Once established, they are reasonably drought-tolerant. Overwatering or wet, waterlogged soil can cause root rot.
Pruning: A light trim after flowering will keep the plant compact and encourage bushy growth. Avoid cutting into the old, woody stems, as new growth may not appear

Fertilizer: Heaths do not typically require feeding, but if leaves turn yellow, an ericaceous feed can be applied during the growing season.
