Begonia

These bushy plants have waxy, rounded leaves that can be green or bronze, and they produce abundant clusters of white, pink, or red flowers. They are often grown outdoors but can be kept as houseplants for seasonal color. 

• Foliage: The leaves are elongated and slender, resembling a blade or dagger.
• Colouration: The foliage is a blend of silvery-green or creamy-white, with a prominent dark green central vein and irregular dark green patterns or margins. The silvery centre and dark green edges create a strong, clean contrast.
• Growth habit: It has a lush, full, and bushy appearance due to its densely clustered stems and upright growth.
• Size: This variety is a slow grower, typically reaching a maximum height of around 50 cm.

• Light: Begonias prefer bright, indirect light. Place them near an east- or west-facing window, or a few feet away from a south-facing one. Direct sun can scorch the leaves, while too little light can lead to leggy growth and faded foliage.
• Watering: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry out before watering. Overwatering can cause root rot, while underwatering can lead to crispy leaves.
• Humidity: Most begonias are tropical plants that thrive in high humidity. To increase moisture, use a pebble tray or a humidifier. Avoid misting the leaves, as this can encourage powdery mildew.

• Soil: Use a well-draining, lightweight potting mix. An aroid mix with added perlite is ideal for aeration and drainage.
• Fertilizer: Feed with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Do not fertilize during the fall and winter.
• Temperature: Begonias prefer warm, consistent temperatures between 65–75°F (18–24°C). Keep them away from cold drafts and sudden temperature drops.
• Toxicity: Begonias are mildly toxic to pets and humans if ingested and should be kept out of reach.
